Creating Practices from Desire
Desire found in silence, stillness, sensation...practices formed from here
tend the gardens in your mind, heart, intuition…
cultivate any practice you desire
What practice would you like to create?
A practice can be a pattern, routine, ritual, tradition, or habit.
It can involve exercise, journaling, self-improvement, self-care, prayer, painting, family-time, holiday celebrations, work…cleaning, organizing, crafting…
You may want to create a practice in order to increase your enjoyment, effectiveness, or pleasure (exercise, meditation, family-time) or to stop doing something you find painful, dissatisfying, or wasteful (screen-time, overwhelm, worry).
Where to begin?
Consider one thing you’d like to begin doing more regularly, with more focused attention…
Think…that nagging thought that’s been pulling at you for a while now. Can you identify where that thought is coming from? That little voice or subtle sensation. Perhaps it is Spirit whispering to you from within…
Questions to help you identify a practice you’d like to develop…
What do I desire? (comes from the heart, gut, feeling, sensation)
What is my desired outcome? (eliminate pain/increase pleasure)
What does my soul crave?
What makes my heart skip a beat, my tummy fill with butterflies?
Tools you may employ when attempting to connect to your core desire(s)…
Free writing, journaling
Listening to music, inspiring programs/podcasts/authors
Walks in nature, sitting on the grass, swimming, showering
Tarot or oracle cards
Candles, essential oils
A flavorful meal or special drink
Beautiful fabrics, clothing
Your Beginning Steps…identifying, clarifying, knowing, acting
Entering stillness, silence…to listen
Schedule quiet time into your day
Allow your body to become still, restful, awake
Follow the breath…in and out
Tapping in to feeling, sensation…to know
Observe thoughts, feelings, sensations that come to you in stillness and silence
Upon noticing feeling, something that touches your heart, mind, or soul - or sensation, physically felt in the body…feel, ask…do I find this pleasurable, am I connecting to this sensation in a positive way
When you identify a stirring, a delight, an excitement or a prompting to know more or follow…take note
Working with mood, emotion…to act
As awareness for desire comes to you, pay attention to the mood or emotion that arises within…happy, joyful, free, expansive
Now is time for writing - what you’ve learned, moving - your body to know more, planning - for the desire to develop into practice, doing - transforming your desires from unconscious to conscious, from invisible to visible
return to the pattern of
silence to listen…
sensation to know…
mood to fuel you into action…
form your practice from here
your heart’s desire
your intuitive knowing
Spirit inspired action
Final thoughts…
Finding a desire to delve deeper…can i help?
As teacher of yoga & meditation, I employ the tools listed above to dream into being my days, my health, my work…my practices.
Identifying discomfort, irritation, frustration, or pain...then choosing, from a state of desire or gravitational pull, to develop practices that will transform overwhelm to contentment, pain to pleasure, anxiety to peace.
Am I always consistent? No! But that’s part of the learning, the awakening to a need for change, and the drive that follows to make better choices tomorrow.
If you’d like to awaken to your heart’s desire, to create something new for yourself, and you believe the tools in my basket could help…let’s chat.
On Friday…watch for a podcast walking you through the steps above!
